A number that can be expressed as a fraction p/q where p and q are integers and q\not=0, is called a rational number with numerator p and denominator q. The numbers which cannot be expressed as rational are called irrational number. Irrational numbers have decimal expansions that neither terminate nor become periodic where in rational numbers the decimal expansion either terminate or become periodic after some numbers.
