How the Twist in the twisted wire cable reduces noise effect?

When we twist the two wires around each other at regular intervals then half of the each wire is close to the noise source for half of the time due to which then the noise effect on both the wires are same. At the receiver side both cancel the effect of each other and the noise effect is significantly reduced
