Here's a rare clip showing not only the 1st UNCLE " Special " in basic pistol form ( as carried in a shoulder holster, spy style ) but also in the fully assembled carbine form. In this clip a UNCLE ( " United Network Command for Law and Enforcement " ) " Enforcement Agent " ( guest star Roosevelt Grier ) is assembling and upgrading / upgunning his basic pistol into carbine form. The pistol is a modified german 1934 Mauser in 7.62 mm Browning calibre. Already a long barrel has been attached / screwed on. The long barrel is the 2nd type and the most widely used version. It can be idendified by the metallic " bulge " half way along which is used as a grip when screwing it on and when firing ( the 1st version's " bulge " was made of wood ) and the muzzle end also has a " bulge " / flash - muzzle supressor ( the 1st version had a smooth muzzle end, no " bulge "). The 1st barrel was only used in some early promo photo's. The pistol's hand grips were removed and replaced with ones that had a slot on the back for the telescopic shoulder stock / rod to be attached, and on the left side ( opposite to our view ) a hollow square / U - shaped slot ( female ) for the optic sight ( male ) to be pushed down / attached. The optic sight had to be fitted back to front / wrong way around as the attachment " slot " and sight mount would have covered the ejection opening / ejection port on the right side of the pistol. The first thing we see is the special long magazine being loaded / inserted ...
