Na drie rampzalige vliegtuigcrashes in de dagen voor onafhankelijkheidsdag, is de Verenigde Staten in opperste staat van paraatheid. Het leger en de FAA denken dat ze te maken hebben met Pakistaanse terroristen. FAA-analist Neil McCabe denkt echter aan een computerhacker. Hij staat alleen in zijn mening en als hij er achter komt dat vlucht 672 het volgende doelwit is gaat hij samen met zijn vriend Rudy op onderzoek uit. Met veel pijn en moeite belanden ze aan boord van het vliegtuig en komen daar oog in oog te staan met Cain, die van plan is het vliegtuig in een kernreactor te laten storten.
