Baby Indian Ringneck ( Rose-ringed ) Parakeet @ Mylapore - Chennai - India

Shot in mid-June 2011 - all the weeks of incubation have passed - I had last seen the mother in early May 2011 very preoccupied with incubating the nest and defending the nest from usurpers... all the hard work seems to have paid off - there is one chick seen here at the nest - and it also has at least one sibling who has(or have) left the nest... this bird appears very shy - yet, as parrots are, it is also very curious about its surroundings... In this video, it seems to be taking in the sights and sounds of its surroundings before it makes that inevitable first flight to the outside world... help always seems to be nearby - its father, shown in the next video here, usually perches on the Neem tree just outside the nesting hole... As of July 2011, the nesting hole was taken over by a pair of Common Mynas - and there seemed to be more than the usual number of parakeets flying around - so the nesting was most probably a success!

My two birds are enjoying a nice bath :) every time I enter the bathroom they aim for the sink even though the water isn't turned on :) yes they are both brothers and the white bird is the oldest parakeets mate.. shes always too shy to bathe in front of them -__-
