Biomanufacturing - GTI

Biomanufacturing - GTI
In this room on the second floor of the Granite Technical Institute, a host of young technicians are experimenting with creating remarkable new products. With modern scientific devices at their fingertips, and under the expert guidance of an accomplished instructor and scientist, they have learned the techniques of precise measurement, temperature control, and creation of biological compounds. Chante Robb carefully measures the compounds of her new product. Chante Robb 12:15 I'm making coconut, avocado, peanut butter chapstick... But Chante has competition. (Nat sound -- gloves) Across the lab, Eddie Cervantes snaps on his gloves and prepares to produce his own novel biological invention: 1310 I am making chapstick with black cherry, rootbeer, strawberry & lavender Even if "root beer, strawberry, and lavender" aren't in your first list of lip balm flavors, what these Granite Technical Institute students are learning is remarkable. Jelena Jensen Teacher of biomanufacturing and physic 31:16 hands on, like lip balm, each student create it, it's different... in process they learn measure, math conversion, learn chemistry and can apply in more than in chemistry class There is more to biomanfacturing that beakers and stirring rods. Even in creating their imaginative lip balm concoctions, Granite Technical Institute students are exposed to procedures and equipment that few high school students encounter. Jelena Jensen 32 this is real work, real skills to apply, rather than in ...
