Calliope Hummingbird Courtship Displays

High-speed videos and sound recordings of Calliope Hummingbird (Stellula calliope) courtship displays. During their display dive, they produce sounds with both the wings and the tail-feathers. I demonstrate that the tail-sound is likely caused by the tail-feathers fluttering and hitting each other. This research was published in a paper: Clark, C. 2011. Wing, tail, and vocal contributions to the complex signals of a courting Calliope Hummingbird. Current Zoology, 57: 187-196. Message me if you would like a .pdf of the paper.
