Cowley Beach Ladder Unsafe (Cassowary Coast Regional Council)

After Cyclone Yasi Cassowary Coast Regional Council decided to re install the beach ladder at Cowley Beach despite it being in a weakened and damaged state. Concerned locals noticed the damage and after doing their best to notify authorities on the weekend rolled the ladder up and placed orange safety fencing around it. For their troubles they were abused by reckless beach drivers...the very people they were protecting! Damon Sydes from Cassowary Coast Regional Council stated he was not aware of the damage to the ladder post Cyclone Yasi as it was rolled up on the beach. I have no reason to doubt his sincerity though the people installing the ladder should have noticed its damaged/weakened state and exercised a duty of care. The irony is that the ladder was re installed to stop people using the boat ramp to drive onto the beach which caused safety/liability concerns within council.
