UPDATE: We have identified our feathered friend as a White-Winged Crossbill. It has been taken to a bird specialist. She confirmed a spinal injury most likely caused by hitting a window, things aren't looking good but we can still hope the bird will be saved. My dad found a small bird in our yard that wouldn't go anywhere. He was even able to touch it (though he got bit a couple of times). Right now the bird is sitting in an open box near the front door with sunflower seeds and some water. Its head is always looking downward so it may have a neck injury. Hasn't made any noise either. Funny thing is that this isn't the first time we've had a bird that's friendly towards humans. A few years ago there was a grouse that would occasionally come out and try to talk to us. There didn't seem to actually be anything wrong with it since it came and went as it pleased. Not sure what we're going to do with it! Maybe it's someone else's pet but I don't know anyone in the neighbourhood who owns a bird. Would explain why there wasn't a mother that came out and attacked us though.
