Preying mantis eating hummingbird

This preying mantis managed to capture and devour a ruby-throated hummingbird visiting the feeder at the Earth Discovery Center. We brought the mantis inside, so future hummingbird visitors will be safe!

Hummingbird Feeding From Hand
A juvenile Ruby-throated Hummingbird feeding from my hand. Anyone can do this, and the birds are not as shy as you would think. I got them to eat from my hand the first day I tried. It takes a bit longer pouring nectar directcly in your hand and having them feed. But, they will. Nectar: (3 parts water to 1 part sugar)...don't ever color it red either, it looks horrible. If you use coloring use green, or purple and teach your neighbors the birds could care less about the color. Or tell them you ordered online and it costs a ton, then sell them some for bucks.
