The engine oil capacity is 1.7 - 1.9 quarts, and Kohler recommends using a multi viscosity, detergent type motor oil with a API SG rating. The Kohler OEM Oil Filter part number is 12 050 01. The engine should be cleaned and brought to operating temperature before the oil and filter is changed. If the engine can't be cleaned, than at least clean the area of the engine involved in the oil change to prevent any dirt from entering the engine. Bringing the engine to operating temperature will help the used oil flow better and any impurities in the engine are more likely to flow out with hot engine oil. After the engine is cleaned and brought to operating temperature, than the next step is to find the oil drain plug, remove it, and let the old engine oil drain out of the engine. After all the engine oil has drained out of the engine, reinstall the drain plug. With the oil drained and the drain plug reinstalled, than find the oil filter and remove it.
