While we continue our mission to develop technologies and infrastructures that improve how people work in this era post-PC, we present a new application of file exchange - the Octopus project at VMworld Las Vegas. Innovative project that combines freedom for the user and control for the administrator.
The Octopus project will enable users to access files from any device and share with people both inside (of other colleagues) and external (suppliers, customers, partners) of their business in a completely safe and secure way. In addition, IT managers will have the power to apply security policies and intelligently manage obsolete or outdated data.
From our studies, we found that 80 percent of the files are no longer used after more than two years. Octopus will automatically identify these orphaned files, notify their owners and without news of their share, to classify them as obsolete and remove them.
The Octopus project promises to be very easy to deploy. It will integrate with your existing infrastructure and will be delivered with a wide range of extensibility options that can integrate with your existing applications. Octopus will work with other VMware including VMware Zimbra, VMware View, VMware Horizon and the AppBlast project.
This project really addresses the challenges that administrators face today: users need a way to access their files on their shelves, easily and quickly smartphones, laptops and computers computers desktop and do so in a safe and secure manner.
