This juvenile downy woodpecker is drinking and "showering" in some ice melting from a suet feeder during a heat wave.
Although the winter forest sometimes feels empty, the absence of leaves allows good bird-watching opportunities. Connecticut is home to a variety of woodpeckers. Among them are the downy, hairy, red-bellied, and pileated. (Video by Will Michael - CTnaturalist TV)
